Getting Ready: An Internship (Part 1)

There is something amazing about doing an internship at an EdTech company, especially in Montreal. According to the Montreal Gazette, “Montreal has already positioned itself as a global artificial intelligence hub.” Growing up in Montreal, I know it to be a city diverse in culture, religion and talent, and in my opinion, Montreal is putting itself on the map just like Silicon Valley did in the 80s and 90s.

Two weeks ago, I joined the Ready Education team for a month-long internship for my Business Management Marketing Program at John Abbott College.

I was first introduced to Ready Education (formerly OOHLALA Mobile) last year as the President of my Student Union. I met Julian Bucci, an Account Executive at Ready Education, when he came to John Abbott to give a live demonstration of the Campus Life App. As President of the Student Union, one of my roles was to represent the students’ wishes on any external projects that either the Student Union or the administration wanted to implement at the college.

As someone who loves technology, I saw the vision that Julian and the team at Ready were trying to promote. After seeing the demonstration, I was blown away by the potential of the platform, and I did everything in my power to get my Cégep to adopt the app.

For the next four months, I worked with Julian to encourage the executive teams, along with the rest of the student union and student body, to adopt the app. In June, the school officially endorsed the Student Life App, which I saw as a stepping stone for student-success at John Abbott College.

Today, the Student Life App is helping administrators:

  • Communicate more effectively with their students
  • Create a more personalized experience for over 7000 students
  • Encourage a more seamless experience with Omnivox through profound integrations

Week 1 at Ready Education

On my first day, I was introduced to the Ready Team (Montreal Office). Being a Cégep student, it took time for me to warm up to the office routine; however, after settling in, I was struck by how talented and passionate the team was when it came to student success.

Annie Gaumond, Lead Generation Specialist and my internship supervisor at Ready Education, introduced me to the idea of a buyer profile: a way for us to identify our customers’ needs and wants when it comes to adopting a mobile platform. To be working on a project that can assist a company in such a way is quite exciting. I am proud to learn and add value here at Ready Education.

What I have learned so far in my internship is that every day is a learning opportunity; everybody learns every day, especially at this company. What keeps me motivated to do great work is the mission this company has to encourage student success through a medium that today’s students understand: mobile.

Stay tuned for part-two of my experience here at Ready Education, in an upcoming blog post.
