Where You’ll Want to Eat At ACPA’16

Written By

If you’re coming to Montreal for ACPA 2016 then you’re no doubt wondering how you’re going to decide where to eat. I don’t blame you for being uncertain. There’s a lot of places you’re going to want to eat in Montreal. Unfortunately, the convention only lasts 3 days so at most you can go to 9 restaurants, ( 3 meals a day, times 3 days). Furthermore, time is and access is an issue. You’ll want to eat somewhere that’s quick to get to from the Palais des congrès so you can get there and back and not miss anything. Luckily, the Palais des congrès is in the heart of the Old Port, one of Montreal’s finest dining locations. There are a lot of eating options in the Old Port. Because we want you to experience the best that Montreal has to offer, while also not missing out on any of ACPA’16, we’ve gone ahead and made a list of the best places you’ll want to eat at, around the Palais des congrès.

Upscale Restaurants

  • Kyo Bar Japonais
  • 711 Côte de la Place d'Armes,
  • 2 minute walk from Palais des congrès
  • What Yelp says:
  • “The restaurant was bustling with clients, service was yet prompt and polite.”
  • “Went there for a friend's birthday. I am pretty picky with sushi and didn't know what to expect. I must say I enjoyed. The food is fresh and the service is very clean.”
  • “Wish I could remember some of the dishes' names but believe me everything that we tried, (which was recommended by our waiter), was delicious! Especially the green tea bread pudding dessert! The atmosphere was very lively, especially when the waiter brings out a round of Sake bombs shots which is a lot of fun to drink! It was a great night and I hope to return soon!”
  • Tapas 24
  • 420 Rue Notre Dame Ouest
  • 5 minute walk from Palais des congrès
  • What Yelp says:
  • “The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the food delicious. What more does one need? Outstanding.”
  • “Best tapas I've had in Montréal. It has a very authentic vibe and the food is great if you like real Spanish tapas. Psss. Try the chef's tasting menu - custom everytime and amazing.”
  • “We hunkered down with a jug of perfect sangria, and not one plate was a miss. Fantastic service with super friendly staff, and an eating experience as good as it ever gets.”
  • Restaurant Bonaparte
  • 443 Rue Saint-François-Xavier
  • 4 minute walk from Palais des congrès
  • What Yelp says:
  • “I had the tasting menu, which was incredible, ranging from the unique and creative foie gras creme brule to the familiar steak. The filet mignon might have been the best steak I've ever had.”
  • “Bonaparte is one of the classiest, ritziest, most fantastical restaurants I have ever been to. The food, the atmosphere, and the service are fantastic.”
  • “I rarely give 5 stars, but this restaurant deserves it! Our hotel concierge recommended Bonaparte for our 10th anniversary dinner, and we are so glad he did! The dining space is classic French elegance.”
  • Barrocco
  • 312 Rue Saint Paul O
  • 6 minute walk from Palais des congrès
  • What Yelp says:
  • “...by far the best restaurant we have been to in Montreal (thus far!) The service was exceptional and the staff very friendly. This is a cute and quaint spot located in Old Montreal.”
  • “...the lobster carbonara was so amazing I almost wanted to lick the bowl, the lamb shank was cooked to perfection, and I was ready to throw down and attack the couple at the next table for their bread so I could sop more jou. If you're in old Montreal, this is the one restaurant you cannot miss.”
  • “The place is FABULOUS! It is small, maybe 12-14 tables total so it would probably be best to have a reservation. On nice evenings the front window opens up for a nice view onto the street. Great service. Our server was extremely attentive.”
  • Le Steak Frites Saint-Paul
  • 405 Rue Saint Antoine Ouest
  • 2 minute walk from Palais des congrès
  • What Yelp says:
  • “The steak was really nice and flavorful and the frites were thin and crispy and they brought us more when we ran out! Quelle service! We also split a MASSIVE side of asparagus... maybe it's just that they were in season but they gave us a TON, and it was the best.”
  • “The service was excellent. Our server was friendly and the rest of the wait staff cleared our table frequently, and brought out the food quickly. The flow of the meal was timed nicely.”
  • “It really was an incredible meal.  After we were done, our waiter took our plates and told us to relax, enjoy the rest of our beers and call him over if we wanted dessert or coffee.  Exactly what a waiter should stay to two stuffed pigs”

Casual and Cosmopolitan

  • Sésame Restaurant
  • 380 St Jacques St. Ouest
  • 4 minute walk from Palais des congrès
  • What Yelp says:
  • “I had lunch there and it was absolutely delicious!  Plus the price was only $15 for a chicken basil stir fry and rice.  Fantastic!”
  • “I had a fabulous experience there. The staff were extremely friendly, it seemed like a family owned atmosphere. It's difficult to find quick food to go in that location after 5. The food was great. Large selection of anything Asian. They gave me some free salad rolls to go that were excellent.”
  • “Overall food was good quality and good value for the price, the service was good and the atmosphere was fun. I would definitely go back.”
  • Bevo Pizzeria
  • 410 Rue Saint Vincent
  • 9 minute walk from Palais des congrès
  • What TripAdvisor says:
  • “We had dinner at Bevo for a special 18th birthday celebration. We all tried different things (risotto, pizza, etc) so we could sample the choices. EVERYTHING was delicious. Yanny was our server. He made the birthday fantastic. He was fun, friendly and personable. Ask for Yanny if you go.”
  • “We wanted pizza and after searching online we decided on Bevo and were delighted we did. The atmosphere was vibrant with a great cocktail bar and modern decor. After an aperitif, a brilliant Negroni, we were served our pizzas that had been baked in a pizza oven on view from our table and they were thin crusted and delicious.”
  • “Really good authentic pizza here! Good atmosphere too, very chilled.”
  • Montreal Poutine
  • 181 St-Paul Est
  • 9 minute walk from Palais des congrès
  • What Yelp says:
  • “Just ate here.  Best poutine ever.  Amazing flavour.  They even use vegetarian gravy! Highly recommended if you're looking for any kind of poutine including vegetarian.”
  • “Had to try Poutines while in Montreal and this place did not disappoint.”
  • “Mmmmmm poutine. If you like gravy, cheese and fries this is a solid stop in Montreal. A quick explanation on poutine: French fries smothered in gravy with chunks of cheese curd thrown in. Yum! At this lovely establishment you can enjoy your poutine with bacon, smoked meat, hot dogs, and pulled pork.”
  • Brit & Chips
  • 33 rue McGill
  • 7 minute walk from Palais des congrès
  • What Yelp says:
  • “I'm a Brit so you can take this review to the bank. I grew up on a stable diet of fish and chips from my local "chippy" and moving to Canada I missed the experience and taste of good quality fish and chips. No matter where you go in North America I feel like I am always served fish and fries instead of a proper chip. Then I found Brit n chips in Montreal!”
  • “ The fish was fried expertly, with a crisp finish and flaky interior. The chips were fat, plump and greased up just so to give off that perfect glisten. I had the poisson du mois, which is not only fun to say, but also fun to eat. This particular mois featured a sole with jerk batter that gave the fish a wee bit of kick.”
  • “Finally got to see what the hype is about! This place is no nonsense deliciousness. No gimmicks, just delicious fish and chips.”
  • Modavie
  • 1 Rue Saint Paul O
  • 7 minute walk from Palais des congrès
  • What Yelp says:
  • “Excellent food, wonderful staff. Loved the lamb burger.  Husband had the rack of lamb with goat cheese. Both were fantastic.”
  • “Honestly I love this restaurant!! Great ambiance for a date night. Food is delicious and great service no complaints about this resto. Just love it!!!”
  • “I love this place! I visit every time I am in town. Jazz music (different musicians each night) starts nightly at 7pm”
  • Le Jardin Nelson
  • 407 Place Jacques Cartier
  • 10 minute walk from Palais des congrès
  • What Yelp says:
  • “This place is amazing! We visited for brunch, we were drawn in by the gorgeous garden patio seating and live jazz music.”
  • “The menu has quite a large variety of choices, ranging from crepes, to pizza, to salads. Some of the highlight dishes that we ordered included the Duck Leg Confit & Salad, Saddle of Rabbit Crepe, and the dish I ordered: the Fresh Salmon Pizza. The salmon was quite fresh and crust nice and light. The portion size was also decent.”
  • “Service was so friendly and prompt, and the food was delicious.  I also really appreciate how they have non-alcoholic cocktails - after a long weekend of imbibing, this was exactly what I wanted and needed!”
